Hiking with Toddlers

This program introduces your Toddler between the ages of 2 and 5 to the adventure of walking on hiking trails. All hikes are short and provide your child with exercise in a stimulating environment! We also offer nature play dates for those moms and kiddos who just want to hang out and play! All hikes are lead by a certified leader who is eager to point out colorful, wiggly, prickly, and amazing things along the trail! Our hosts always have something interesting to share and many are professionals in nature-related fields or education. Moms with two kids will love this program because babies in carriers are always welcome.

We will hike in a group, and all hikes are limited to 10 moms with their child(ren). For moms with a new baby, please feel free to carry him or her while your older child has fun exploring in nature while learning trail etiquette.

Hike Ratings

Casual:
A quarter to a half mile with no incline. These hikes are perfect for kids who are just starting on the trails around 22 months or older!
Moderate:
Around a half mile with some incline and variable terrain. Best for kids around 2 or 3 years.
Challenging:
At least a mile with incline. These hikes are best for 3 to 5-year-olds.

Plan to arrive about 15 minutes prior to the hike start time to allow for getting the kids ready. Each hike will start with an introduction and explanation of the activities, and then we will hit the trail for some fun exploring. This is a great social opportunity for you and your child, and a safe and unique way for you to exercise together.

To Sign Up

Please go to the Schedule of Events to sign up for hikes that you plan to attend (look for Toddler activities). You can sign up any time for any scheduled hike (even the morning of the hike) provided the hike is not filled up. You will receive an e-mail confirmation (or indication that the hike is filled). Guests and older sibblings can come along too! Since these hikes are short and designed for little walkers, older kids might get bored, but they make great helpers!

Cancellation Policy

Please check the schedule on the web site prior to the hike. If inclement weather requires cancellation or relocation, the web site will have this updated information. If there is rain or snow on the day of a hike, the decision will be made at the hike site as to whether or not the hike will be cancelled. If in doubt, go to the hike site because it might be sunny there and raining at your house!

There is also a two-person minimum on our hikes since your leader's time is valuable too. If this minimum is not reached, you'll get an e-mail on the day of the hike so check often! If you need to cancel your registration, login to My Account and select this option next to the event you're signed up for. Please cancel as soon as possible to allow others who may be on the waiting list to attend.
