Jefferson County - Corwina Park, Corwina Park Creek Trail for Toddlers

This 1.5 mile hike has a slow incline in the beginning and runs along a shady creek. This area is brimming with wildlife and we'll have a chance to see insects, birds, squirels, and spectacular shady vegitaion and wildflowers. This shady hike will travel in and back again, stopping for a lunch break at some point.

Take C-470 to the Morrison Road exit. Go through Morrison and then continue straight onto Hwy 74. Go 7.1 miles and you will see a Corwina Park sign on the right but KEEP GOING another .7 miles to the trail head on the left. It looks like you are entering into a driveway. If you get to the town of Kittredge you have gone about a 1/2 mile too far.

Jefferson County - White Ranch Park, White Ranch Park for 7-11

This is a cool and shady high elevation hike perfect for collecting rocks and studying the geography of the area. We'll study the difference in the types of rocks, discuss how these rocks were formed, and take a few home to begin a fabulous rock collection. Bring a tupperware or other box for collecting, and if you have a rock study guide, please feel free to bring it.

Take Hwy 93 north out of Golden for one mile to Golden Gate Canyon Road. From here you are about 20 minutes from the trail head. Go west on Golden Gate Canyon Road for 4 miles and turn right onto Crawford Gulch Road. Take Crawford Gulch Road for 4 miles then turn right onto Belcher Hill Rd. Take Belcher Hill Rd into White Ranch Park and go to the parking lot at the end of the road (not the first one at the park entrance).

Jefferson County - Maxwell Falls, Upper Lot, Maxwell Falls Trail

This pretty and shady hike begins with a flat jaunt through the forest. We head down to the falls and then make a nice loop back up to the upper parking lot. There are no steep inclines and the sound of the creek is pure heaven!

Take I-70 west to the Evergreen Parkway exit (Hwy 74). Take Hwy 74 to downtown Evergreen and turn right at the light onto South Hwy 73. Take Hwy 73 about 1 mile to Brook Forest Road and turn right. Go 6.1 miles (set your odometer!!) and the parking lot for Maxwell Falls, Upper Lot will be on the left. This is a longer drive than you think, so plan about a half hour from the west side of town.

Jefferson County - Maxwell Falls, Upper Lot, Maxwell Falls Trail for 7-11

We'll have a long and beautiful hike through the evergreen forest while learning about the many different types of evergree plants and trees. We'll learn how to use the needles and leaves to identify the plant, discuss the uses of pine cones, and even learn a secret trick to identify a Ponderosa Pine... with your nose! This is a longer hike with some incline, and we'll break for snacks along the creek.

Take I-70 west to the Evergreen Parkway exit (Hwy 74). Take Hwy 74 to downtown Evergreen and turn right at the light onto South Hwy 73. Take Hwy 73 about 1 mile to Brook Forest Road and turn right. Go 6.2 miles (set your odometer!!) and the parking lot for Maxwell Falls, Upper Lot will be on the left. This is a longer drive than you think, so plan about a half hour from the west side of town.

Jefferson County - Apex Park, Enchanted Forest Trail

This hike is over 5 miles and heads uphill gradually along a creek bed. We will hike in the “enchanted forest” which is a gorgeous and wooded area. The trail is mostly flat and winds through wooded forest.

Take I-70 to the Morrison Road exit and turn right at the light at the end of the off ramp. Go about a mile and turn left into the Heritage Square parking lot. At the far end of the lot is the trail head (do NOT meet at the lower trail head below Heritage Square).

Jefferson County - Lookout Mountain Nature Center, Meadow Trail for 7-11

The hills are blooming with wildflowers and we'll use this hike to appreciate how delicate and also how hardy these gems are to our natural surroundings. We'll identify the flowers we see and study the parts of a flower up close - bring a magnifying glass if you have one. Make sure to have good shoes and plenty of water.

Take I-70 to the Lookout Mountain exit and follow the signs to the Lookout Mountain Nature center. Plan about 10 minutes of winding road from the I-70 exit to the top of Lookout Mountain. We will meet on the benches outside.

Jefferson County - Lookout Mountain Nature Center, Forest Loop

This is a .75 mile hike that meanders through the woods allowing for kids to search for birds, bugs and butterflies! The trail has some incline and obstacles making it great for more sure-footed toddler hikers. Following the hike, the nature center is open for some fun exploring of animal habitats and food sources.

Take I-70 to the Lookout Mountain exit and follow the signs to the Lookout Mountain Nature center. We will meet on the benches outside.

Jefferson County - Lair O’ the Bear Park, Creek Side Trail

It’s all about the water… and bridges… and finding muddy treasures on this hike! This half-mile hike is along a creek making for endless fun tossing branches, poking at the mud, and looking for water insects. Plan to get a bit muddy and have a blast along the creek! A great hike for new or experienced toddler hikers.

Take C-470 to the Morrison Road exit and go west. Go through Morrison and then continue straight onto Hwy 74. Go 4.7 miles, and the park is on the left.

Jefferson County - Windy Saddle Park, Lookout Mountain Trail

This out and back trail travels through open forest for lots of shade on the hot summer days. There is some incline but nothing too hard and the way back is all downhill!

From Hwy 6 turn West on 19th Street (in Golden)Follow it up as it turns into Lookout Mountain Road/Lariet loop to the Windy Saddle parking lot on the right.

Jefferson County - Kendrick Lake Park, Lake Loop, run/walk

This stroller walk is geared for mamas wanting to get the day started with a work out! We'll do a run/walk for a total of 3 miles with a few strength building activities along the way. If three miles is too long for you, this is a one-mile loop and you are welcome to drop off after one or two miles. Please bring plenty of water and good exercise shoes.

Kendrick lake is on Jewel, just east of Kipling. Park in the lot and look for the awesome mamas with kiddos!

Jefferson County - Alderfer/Three Sisters, Ponderosa Loop for 7-11

If your kiddos are budding artists or even if they are not, this hike will allow them to look and appreciate the details in nature and draw what they see. We'll do a two mile hike stopping twice to practice drawing both landscapes and natural details. We'll practice techniques for using colored pencils to create both soft and hard features. Please bring a drawing pad and pencils in a backpack (allowing for your child to keep their hands free while hiking).

Take I-70 west to the Evergreen Parkway exit (Hwy 74). Take Hwy 74 to downtown Evergreen, and turn right at the light heading south onto Hwy 73. Go .6 miles and turn right onto Buffalo Park Road. Follow Buffalo Park Road for about 2 miles to the SECOND parking area near a big open field.

Jefferson County - Crown Hill Park, Lake Trail Stroller Walk

We will do two brisk loops around the Crown Hill Lake on the paved trail. We'll do a bit of strength training along the way! This area is teaming with wildlife making it a gorgeous urban gem. Let's get in shape and have some fun doing it!

From Kipling, go east on 26th to the second parking lot for Crown Hill Park. You will see the bathrooms and several picnic tables.

This challenging 3.5 mile hike has beautiful views of the “Three Sisters” rock formation, and the trail is dappled with sunlight as you hike through the forest.

Jefferson County - Meyer Ranch, Sunny Aspen Trail

This gorgeous trail has aspen groves, open grass land, and wooded forest. The Sunny Aspen Trail is about 2.6 miles. This is one of our harder moderate hikes, so get ready for a great work out!

Take the Hampden/Hwy 285 exit off C-470 and go South on Hwy 285. Drive 12 miles and just before the town of Aspen Park exit to the right onto South Turkey Creek Road. (This is the SECOND sign for South Turkey Creek Road – don’t take the first turnoff – and don’t take North Turkey Creek Road!) Enter the Meyer Ranch parking lot immediately off the highway.

Jefferson County - Mount Falcon, Castle Trail

We’ll take the kids to an overlook with spectacular views and an old homestead ruin. The kids can do some exploring and we’ll head back. This trail will be about a mile and is flat and well groomed. Since this is a higher elevation hike, be sure to dress for changing weather!

Take C-470 to Hampden/Hwy 285 South. Take the Indian Hills turn off, and follow Parmalee Gulch Road for 2.6 miles. Turn onto Picitus Road and follow signs to the west access for Mount Falcon – this is the second parking area you will come to.

Jefferson - Massey Draw *** CANCELED ***, Massey Draw Trail

This challenging 3 mile round trip hike follows a steep drainage through a beautiful forest with cool rocks, then enters an aspen grove and finally comes out on top at Gothic Overlook with awesome views to the east.

Exit C470 at Ken Caryl Ave and head west. Go left through the stop light Y on South Valley Road and then make your first right on Club Drive. Drive about 0.7 miles to the stop sign and turn right onto Valley Parkway. Go 0.6 miles and park in the parking lot on the right labeled Brannon Gearhart Park. (You will see a sign for the Massey Draw Trailhead on the left.)

Jefferson County - Genesee Park, Braille Nature Trail

This gorgeous tree-covered hike winds gently down into the forest where a bevel of squirrels will keep us company! The one mile loop continues through moist forest land and back up to where we started. Originally a trail for the blind, this easy hike is flanked by a guide line.

Take I-70 west out of Denver to the Chief Hosa Exit 253. Turn right at off the exit then immediately right again onto Stapleton Drive. Go 1.1 miles, bearing left at the fork, to the trail head.

Jefferson County - Deer Creek Canyon Park, Meadow Lark Trail

This hike is 2.7 miles and has a pretty steady climb followed a descent back to the start. The scenery is spectacular in this area south of town, and the second half of the hike is restricted to hikers only.

Take C-470 to the Kipling exit and go south. Take Kipling for a short distance to Ute Avenue and turn right (west), then right again onto Deer Creek Canyon Road. Follow the winding road for a couple miles and then turn left onto Grizzly Drive. Go less than a mile and the park is on the right.
