Jefferson County - Meyer Ranch, Sunny Aspen Trail, Anniversary hike!

Come join us for Mountain Mamas 10 year Anniversary! This celebration hike will commemorate 10 years of amazing women hiking together. This gorgeous trail has aspen groves, open grass land, and wooded forest. The Sunny Aspen Trail is about 2.6 miles with a pretty decent incline at the beginning but flat and downhill after that. Bring a lunch to enjoy a picnic after the hike. For our Toddler hikers, if you would like to join and take a short loop, we will have a hike leader coordinating the kiddos!

Take the Hampden/Hwy 285 exit off C-470 and go South on Hwy 285. Drive 12 miles and just before the town of Aspen Park exit to the right onto South Turkey Creek Road. (This is the SECOND sign for South Turkey Creek Road – don’t take the first turnoff – and don’t take North Turkey Creek Road!) Enter the Meyer Ranch parking lot immediately off the highway.

Jefferson County - Lair O’ the Bear Park, Creek Side Trail

It’s all about the water… and bridges… and finding muddy treasures on this hike! This half-mile hike is along a creek making for endless fun tossing branches, poking at the mud, and looking for water insects. Plan to get a bit muddy and have a blast along the creek! A great hike for new or experienced toddler hikers.

Take C-470 to the Morrison Road exit and go west. Go through Morrison and then continue straight onto Hwy 74. Go 4.7 miles, and the park is on the left.

Jefferson County - Red Rocks Park, Amphatheatre Loop

This terrific hike is perfect for moms getting acquainted with the techniques of hiking with baby or anyone interested in testing out a harder Casual hike. It’s less than 1.5 miles with fairly gradual inclines – steeper at the end. New members are encouraged to come, and if this is your first hike with Mountain Mamas, you'll get a great orientation to our group and some good information on hiking safely with your baby!

Take C-470 to the Morrison Road exit. Go through Morrison and turn right at the sign for Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Meet at the trading post at the top of the hill.

Jefferson County - Elk Meadow Open Space, Sleepy S Loop

This beautiful hike is 2.5 miles and has some moderate ascents and descents – great work out without strenuous incines. This hike is in Evergreen and is at a higher elevation so the temps will be cooler and the weather a bit more unpredictable.

Take I-70 west to the Evergreen Parkway exit (Hwy 74). Take Hwy 74 for several miles to the intersection with Stagecoach Blvd. and turn right. Go 1 mile to the Elk Meadow parking lot.

Tuesday, May 28 - 11:30 a.m.

Babies
Event Difficulty: Challenging
Distance: 3 miles
Equipment: Babies in front or back carriers
Hike Leader: Joy Opp
Maximum Attendees: 15
Special Info:

Jefferson County - White Ranch Park, Sawmill to Mustang Trail

This hike will be about 3 miles and is one of the most lovely routes at White Ranch! There are sweeping vistas around every curve. Aside from one uphill bunburner, this route has more gradual inclines throughout. And on this hike you'll be able to check out a campgroud that is perfect for backpacking with your baby if you ever want to give it a try.

Take Hwy 93 north out of Golden for one mile to Golden Gate Canyon Road. From here you are about 20 minutes from the trail head. Go west on Golden Gate Canyon Road for 4 miles and turn right onto Crawford Gulch Road. Take Crawford Gulch Road for 4 miles into White Ranch Park and go to the parking lot at the end of the road (not the first one at the park entrance).

Friday, May 31 - 10:00 a.m.

Toddlers
Event Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: .75 Miles
Equipment: Snacks, water and good shoes
Hike Leader: Carrie Baron
Maximum Attendees: 10
Special Info:

Jefferson County - Flying J, Toddler Loop

This gorgeous forested hike is perfect for letting kids explore the trail as we search for squirrels, bunnies, and blue jays. The trail is mostly flat, completely shaded, and less than a mile. This is a higher elevation hike so it will be cooler than in the city. There is a great picnic area at the trail head, so bring lunch if you'd like to stay.

Take C-470 to Hampden/Hwy 285 South. Go South/West on 285 for about 15 miles almost to Conifer. Before Conifer you will see the exit for Staples and a Bradley/Sinclair gas station. Exit the highway on the right and again veer right at the first light. You are now on CR 273 and you will go through two more stoplights for a total of 1.5 miles from where you exited the highway. At the sign for Flying J Ranch Park, turn left and continue about a half mile to the parking area and restrooms.
